Marilyn Hoopes Hepworth celebrated her best birthday ever on December 4, 2023, reunited with her honey in heaven.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend, whose contagious singing brought joy to those around her. Marilyn was devoted to the Lord and delighted in serving others. She was very involved in both church and community. She served as Relief Society and Primary Presidents, Stake Primary Presidency, Special Needs Mutual, Ward Music Chair, Election Judge, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and substitute teacher at South Weber Elementary. Everyone she worked with enjoyed her warmth and friendship. She was always cheerful, loved gardening, sewing, cooking, and canning, but most of all, spending time with her family.
Marilyn was born in a log home December 4, 1935, in Fairview Wyoming to Izora Hale and Vernon Hoopes. She loved growing up on their dairy farm in beautiful Star Valley, where she learned to work hard and have fun alongside her two sisters and four brothers.
She graduated from Star Valley High as valedictorian and earned a full scholarship to the University of Wyoming. When her mother suffered a severe stroke, Marilyn put schooling aside in order to care for her.
Marilyn received a letter from a soldier during the Korean war who had served a mission with her brother Gerald and had seen a picture of her. That soldier turned out to be Lael Hepworth. When he returned, he sought her out, and that was the beginning of their courtship.
The two sweethearts were married on May 27, 1955, in the Idaho Falls Temple.
They later settled in the wonderful community of South Weber, Utah. Marilyn was an exemplary homemaker, and raised their seven children in love, faith, and music; teaching kindness, manners, and integrity.
Marilyn’s legacy includes her seven grateful children: Melanie (Roark Neville), Jeanni (Brian Gould), Shane (Rebecca Bentley), Curtis (Bev), Sharon (Eric Halter), Paul (Becky Jo Brown), Matt (Jenni); twenty grandchildren; and thirty-four great-grandchildren. She is survived by her big sister Gwen (Wayne Roos) and sister-in-law Shirlene Hoopes.
She loved well, and was well loved.
