Maria Esther Montoya passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 8 o'clock in the morning, surrounded by her loving family.
A woman of deep faith, Esther devoted her life to God and to her family, living her vocation as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful Catholic. Born and raised in Canjilon, New Mexico, Esther lived a life of humility, service, and prayer. Lived most of her life in Ogden, UT she was a devoted homemaker who also worked various jobs to help provide for her family, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her faith guided every step of her life, and she passed on her love of God, family, and tradition to all who knew her. Esther found joy in God’s creation through fishing, camping, sewing, canning, and time spent outdoors. She especially treasured moments shared with her children and grandchildren, whether playing cards, shopping with loved ones, spur of the moment trips to the casino chasing jackpots or simply enjoying one another’s company.
Her laughter, kindness, and quiet strength will be deeply missed. Esther is survived by her children, sons, Jose M. (Mary) Montoya of Glendale, AZ and Lando J. (Pablina) Montoya of Ogden; daughters, Maria Rino of Ogden and Teresa V. Montoya; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of faith, love, and devotion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Jose Clotario Montoya, and her siblings.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West, West Haven. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
