Maria Maricela “Marcy” Guzman, passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. She will be remembered for her strength, fortitude, service and gratitude. Also, the deep love she had for her family and friends.
Marcy was born on December 29, 1947, in Pharr, Texas, to Juan Guzman, Jr. and Maria Antonia Gutierrez. She lived a life defined by dedication, perseverance, and compassion. In 2015, she married the love of her life, Maria Magdalena Cruz Jiminez, who stood faithfully by her side through both joyful and difficult times.
Marcy graduated from Davis High School in May 1967. She earned an associate degree in applied arts sciences in Health Information Technology from Shoreline Community College in June 1988.
She proudly served in the United States Navy from 1975 to 1995, attaining the rank of Rm1. During her military career, Marcy was stationed at Midway Island, San Diego; Guam (twice); ADAK, Alaska; and Everett, Washington. Her service to her country was a lifelong source of pride.
Marcy was one of the most loving and compassionate people you could meet. There was never a time that she didn’t think of others. She loved to share her joy through music, and dancing. There wasn’t a person she met that didn’t’ become a friend either by sharing a meal or a good laugh. People – adults and children alike were drawn to her, and the love she had for her animals was unsurpassed Others could only hope to be as generous-hearted as she.
Marcy is survived by her beloved wife, Maria Magdalena Cruz Jiminez; her stepsons, Mario Daniel Rosales, and Arturo Alberto Sanchez; her siblings, Maria “Lupe” (Mike) Rivers, Maria “Toni” Guzman, Juan (Zulema) Guzman, Selma (Rey) Saenz, Oscar Guzman, Karen Guzman, Amanda (Juan) Garza, David (Maribel) Guzman, Rhonda (Leo) Arteaga, and Kris Guzman; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Guzman. Jr. and Maria Antonia Gutierrez; and her brother, Jaime "James" Guzman - her Sunshine.
In Marcy’s own words, she wished first and foremost to thank her wife, Maria Magdalena “Magda”, for being there for her 100 percent through the good and the bad always by her side, Thank you, Babe.
She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Canyon Hospice and their compassionate staff including Melissa Sharp, Jamie Hartson, Bruce Burrows, Chris Richins, and Dr. David VanderMerwe.
Marcy would like to thank her siblings and friends, in Utah and those who traveled from out of state that visited her , Lee and Diane, Virginia Beach, VA; Victoria Voight, Boulder, NV; Patti Manzanares, Albuquerque, NM, and Debbie Oney, San Diego, CA.
When you think of Marcy, please raise a glass and Salud / Cheers, knowing she is always loved and at peace.
A small memorial service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
