Mada Burbank Scott, age 93, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in Layton, Utah.
Mada was born in Franklin, Idaho on May 28, 1929 to George Gardner Burbank and Violet Chatterton Burbank. She attended school and grew up in Cub River, Idaho, living there until she married her husband, James H. Scott.
Mada and James were married on November 2, 1946, in the Logan Utah Temple. James was in the military, so they had the opportunity to travel to many different places: Edwards Air Force Base, California; Provo, Utah; Blytheville Air Force Base, Arkansas; Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota; Taiwan; and West Point, Utah. They were blessed with 8 wonderful children.
Mada valued education and in her 50s she attended Weber State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in English and Communications
Mada was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has served, a few times, as the Relief Society President. In 1999, Mada was blessed to serve an LDS Senior mission to Sydney, Australia. Even in her 80’s, she loved working with the Young Women in her ward. She was also a member of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers. A few of Mada hobbies were reading and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Scott; sister, Lera Hansen; brother, Don Burbank; grandsons, David Scott and James Scott; and granddaughter, Tessa Coleman.
Mada is survived by her 8 children, Giana Curtis, James H. (Crystal) Scott Jr., Dennis B. (Kathy) Scott, Katy (Randy) Hill, Favero Greenforest, Chelsea Rose, Edye (Michael) Coleman, and Susanne Scott; sister, Grace Castle; 22 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held 11:00am Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary, 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse, Utah. Friends and relatives may visit with the family on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30am at the mortuary. Interment will be held at West Point City Cemetery, 80 North 4000 West, West Point, Utah 84015.
