Lynn East Wright

August 10, 1927 ~ May 4, 2016

A hero left us on May 4, 2016. Lynn was a man who led with quiet strength and gentle wisdom. He was always there to help others with a tool to fix something, brawn to move something, or the pillar of strength that our families, young and old, looked to for guidance and courage. He loved to laugh and found humor in living. Our lives are better because of Lynn.

Lynn was born on August 10, 1927 in West Warren to Joseph Clyde and Zella East Wright. After an injury in his youth he was forced to quit school in the 8th grade. That was the beginning of Lynn becoming a self made man. He attended Weber State College and worked at Hill Air Force Base making lasting friendships. He loved to mention that he flew airplanes a million miles but never left the ground. Later in life he was finally able to fly a plane at the Ogden Airport which fulfilled a lifelong dream. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and was patriotic and proud to be a veteran. Lynn also enjoyed woodworking and became very proficient. He made furniture for himself and for family members. He also enjoyed making intricate bird houses which, if you were lucky enough to receive one, was a treasure.

Lynn married his sweetheart and honey bun bun, Laureta Droesbeke, on February 25, 1946 in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They were married for a wonderful 68 years. During those years they enjoyed square dancing, golfing, traveling the country in their travel trailer, and cruising with family and friends. They also enjoyed spending the winters at their second home in Yuma, Az. Laureta passed in July 2014. He missed her desperately.

Lynn is survived by his sons, Steve (Debbie) and Craig (Terry); daughters, Sheila (Ken) Frost and Tami (John) Krebs. He has 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Verla (John) Hansen and Linda (Raleigh) Jensen. Preceded in death are his parents, wife, brother, Ray, sisters, Carma Evans, Cleo Wagner, and Jean Gardiner.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, West Warren Cemetery.
