Lynn Eugene Craythorn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Lynn fought a courageous battle with cancer and far exceeded doctors’ expectations for his life expectancy. He was a true fighter—no one could tell him how to live his life, except the good Lord, who guided him through this journey.
Lynn was born on February 18, 1943, to Arnold Eugene and Trudice Marie Craythorn. He was their firstborn, becoming the big brother to three brothers: Kevin (Debbie) Craythorn, Don Craythorn, and Craig (Becky) Craythorn; and two sisters: Terry (Mick) Ellis and Jill Whiteley.
Lynn worked at Hill Air Force Base for 40 years, retiring in 2004. He also drove for Smith’s Food and Drug for 32 years, retiring in 2010. To this day, family members are still expected to place their hands over their hearts when passing a Smith’s semi-truck. At the young age of five, Lynn began working on the family’s West Point farm, and he continued to manage it throughout his life. After his parents passed away, Lynn and his siblings developed the land into housing.
On January 16, 1960, Lynn married his sweetheart, Patricia Anne Craythorn. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage and later solemnized their vows in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 23, 1998. Together, they had four children: Valerie (Randy) Carr, Roxanna (Mark) Johnson, Rodrick (Holly) Craythorn, and Lance (Marcy) Craythorn. From this union came 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Family gatherings were always special to Grandpa Lynn, and he worked hard to make them happen, including the annual ski weekend and summer family reunion.
Lynn and Pat also served a church mission in Russia starting in 2011, an experience they cherished deeply. They built lasting friendships and kept in touch with many members in Russia, as well as the missionaries they served with. Some family members were able to visit them during their mission, gaining a deeper appreciation for the people of Russia. Lynn often spoke fondly of those memories and the many blessings they received.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Lynn loved sharing outdoor experiences with family and friends. Whether it was riding 4-wheelers, driving his jeep, boating, or skiing, the outdoors was always more enjoyable when it involved family. He and Pat also enjoyed traveling, taking numerous international trips for both business and pleasure. One of his greatest gifts was organizing a memorable family trip to Israel, which was a blessing for all involved.
Lynn was a devout Christian who served wherever he could. Just days before he passed, he was at church, ensuring he was clean-shaven and presentable. His unwavering faith and service left an indelible mark on those around him.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jill Whiteley, and his son-in-law Mark Johnson.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to CNS Hospice, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff at LDS Hospital and Layton Hospital, for their care and support during Lynn’s treatment.
This world is a better place because of the love, faith, and service Lynn gave throughout his life. He will be deeply missed.
