Lynette Merrell Campbell

September 21, 1940 ~ September 9, 2022

Lynette Merrell Campbell, 81, of North Ogden, Utah passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 9, 2022. She was born September 21, 1940, to the late Emma Jane Layton and Douglas Burdel Merrell in Virden, New Mexico and the growing up on the family farm fostered her signature determination and grit that she was warmly known for. She graduated from Arizona State University with a teaching degree in 1962.

Lynette had a sharp memory and lovingly remembered details about everyone around her until the very end. She spent a life dedicated to service. From teaching elementary school children, working as a hospital volunteer coordinator for Dixie Regional Medical Center, to spending countless hours quilting with the Roy Pioneer Quilting Guild and North Ogden Coldwater Stake humanitarian quilting group. All her children and grandchildren cover up at night under one of her personalized quilts as well. She has the straightest stich this side of the Mississippi and at the beginning of COVID-19, spent late nights sewing hundreds of masks. She was also involved in Philanthropic Education Organization and was a proud member of the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers.  Through her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she sang in the choir (even stepping in as a tenor when needed) and held various leadership positions over the years.

Anyone who knows Lynette knows she has always loved the sea. In her midlife, she spent summers volunteering at national and state parks along the Oregon Coast and returned frequently with her family in later life. She could be spotted far in the distance collecting seashells for hours on end.

On October 30, 2012, she married Val Campbell in an intimate ceremony in St. George, Utah.

Lynette is survived by her husband, Val Campbell; two children, Sarah Hannigan, and Patrick Hannigan (Jennifer); brothers, Ellsworth Merrell, Neil Merrell and Jerry Merrell.  She is also survived by three grandchildren, Kalen Hannigan (Gabrielle), Hailey Hannigan Hales (Nathan), and Milo Hannigan; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Hannigan and Kain Hannigan; and two stepchildren, Dennis and Scot (Amy). She was preceded in death by five beloved siblings and her oldest son, Michael Hannigan.
