Lynda Slater Stark, age 80, passed away peacefully in the care of her family on May 8, 2026.
Born on February 14, 1946, in Ogden, Utah, Lynda was the youngest daughter of Erma and W. Everett Slater. She graduated from Weber High School and later earned her teaching degree from Weber State College, beginning an illustrious career as an educator that spanned many subjects, states, and generations.
Lynda dedicated her life to the pursuit of education and learning, applying her talents within her family and professional career. A gifted and devoted teacher, she spent her career inspiring countless students in a wide range of subjects, including band, orchestra, choir, English, and math. She didn’t limit her teaching to the schools. She taught music in her home throughout her life. Her love of music, knowledge, and helping others shaped the lives of many who had the privilege of learning from her.
Lynda’s greatest accomplishment was the raising of her 8 children. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time laughing, playing games, serving, and being with her family. She loved playing pickleball, nature, Yellowstone, and all things Disney. She was a gifted violinist and played in several orchestras.
Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Being a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lynda had a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She played the organ for many years and served faithfully in many other callings. She loved being in the temple. She especially cherished her opportunity to serve a mission in Munich, Germany, where she shared her faith and love of the Savior.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her sister, Nancy Zaugg; her brother, Val Slater; and her son, Micheæl David Stark.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Paul (Veronique) Stark, Patricia (Michael) Gifford, Dianna (Jody) Fairbourn, DaeLyn (Von) Clawson, John (Lori) Stark, DJ (Robyn) Stark, J (Whitnie) Stark, and Terilyn (Lyle) Davis, her 39 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a large and loving family who will miss her deeply and cherish the memories they shared with her.
Lynda will be remembered for her dedication to family, lifelong service, love of teaching, and unwavering faith. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched as a mother, teacher, and disciple of Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Huckleberry Ward. 1285 South 2500 West, Syracuse UT. Friends may visit with family on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday prior to service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
