Luellyn Mae Knox Withrow

Luellyn Mae Knox Withrow, 92, passed away surrounded by family on Nov. 28, 2012.

Mom was born on December 23, 1919 and raised in Williston, North Dakota, the oldest of three children.

She moved to Arlington, Virginia, where she finished high school and graduated from George Washington University in 1943. There she met the love of her life, Robert Withrow. Mom and Dad were married July 20, 1945 in Virginia at the church where they first met.

In the first 15 years of marriage, our parents moved often. They brought two children into the world, John and Marilyn. They settled our family in Ogden in 1960 where they bought their first and only house in Ogden Canyon.

She worked at Weber State University a€" a junior college when she started and a university by her retirement a€" as an office manager in the athletic department as well as secretary to the athletic director. She worked at the University for 27 years retiring in 1987. She remained a fan and supporter of Weber State even after her retirement.

Though Mom loved crocheting and knitting, she contributed a significant amount of her time to the many civic and philanthropic organizations in which she participated as well as Ogden''s First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. She was actively involved in the YCC, League of Women''s Voters, Women''s Legislative Council, AAUW, COR, Family Counseling Service, Widowed Persons, SHARE Inc., and PEO. In 1995, she was designated a Living Treasure by the Weber Human Services Council on Aging. In 1998 she received the Mattie Watts Harris Founder/Lifetime Community Service Award at the 15th Annual Spirit of American Women Awards.

Mom loved to travel, and through her life she visited every continent except Antarctica.

After retirement, she spent her winters at Lake Havasu, which became one of our family''s favorite places. Mom was a self-professed people person who made friends everywhere she went.

Luellyn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind her son John (Meribeth) Withrow and her daughter, Marilyn (Michael) Miller, along with four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

Her husband, Bob, preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Bill, and sister, Pat.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 880 28th Street in Ogden.

Cremation entrusted to Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary.
