Listen to Obituary

Reese was born March 19, 1933, son of Walter Boyd and Edna Pickett Turley at the hospital in Tremonton Utah. They lived at East Factory Street, about 400 East and 90 North. Walter was involved in a farming accident soon after Reese’s birth, where a tractor rolled over on him. He was found by a stranger who had followed an impression to travel on that road and as a result Walter was rescued and survived a few years. Walter died on July 4, 1936 as a result of that previous farm accident. After Walter’s death, Edna married Walter’s brother Aubrey. Together, Edna and Aubrey raised the 4 boys from Edna’s first marriage, as well as 2 additional children: Judy and Max.

Walter and Aubrey first farmed in Hawkins Basin and later, after Walter’s death, in Blue Creek and finally 1450 acres Pocatello Valley, Idaho. Walter and Aubrey were both born in the Mormon Colonies in Mexico and came to Utah as teenagers. Edna was born and raised in Cache Valley. Her family came to the US in 1856 in the LDS migration from England. Reese loved the farm and the farm life of Northern Utah and wrote about it extensively. All the Turley boys had special nicknames: Harlan was Johnny, Grant was Tobie, Reese was Dutch, Alan was Cat, Max was Maggie. Lucky for her, Judy was just Judy or Judith.

Reese attended USAC in Logan 1951-52 and served in Korea from 1952 to 1954. He got engaged to Carol Larsen when he was on leave from basic training and got married the January after he was released from service.

Reese and Carol had 6 children: Catherine Sue (Cathy) (Gibb), Patricia Ann (Pat), Carol Lee (Jones), Jon Reese, James Matthew, and David Andrew.

Reese and Carol and family moved to Washington State in 1964. During his years in Washington, he was a farmer, worked at the sugar beet factory in Moses Lake, worked for several different companies in building and construction and finally acted as building safety inspector for the state of Washington. He always dedicated himself to whatever work he was assigned and gave more than expected to his employers.

Carol and Reese later divorced, and Reese later married Jean Grover. Reese, Carol and Jean got along well, and Reese and Jean often stayed with Carol when visiting Utah. Jean has been a joy and light in Reese’s life and has been kind and caring to the entire Turley family.

Reese is predeceased by his parents and all siblings, except for Max. He is also predeceased by his son Jimmy and daughter Carol Lee (Jones).

Lowell Reese Turley died on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. He will be interred in the Logan City Cemetery on February 12, 2026.
