Louis Clyde Hammer
Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Louis C. Hammer, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. He was born on December 13, 1926 to Willie Clyde and Audra Lee Fain Hammer in St Johns, Kansas.
In 1941, Louis moved to the Ogden area. He met the love of his life, Janet Thornock in 1944, where they had their first date Christmas Eve. They were married October 15, 1945 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 16, 1965.
Louis was a member of the Canyon Hollows LDS Ward where he served as the Finance Clerk for 18 years serving through four different Bishoprics. He also served in the Elders Quorum and Sunday School.
He was a truck driver for 27 years for Ogden Propane. After retirement, he delivered flowers for Klenke Floral and worked for Harmon''s Grocery Store. Louis took great pride in his garden. He enjoyed many hunting trips with his sons and grandchildren. He also liked to do cross-stitching. He made each of his grandchildren a baby blanket adding his own creative interpretation on each one. His most important accomplishment in life was his family. He was proud of each of his children and cherished his grandchildren and loved their visits.
Louis is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Janet; sons, Louis Brent (Trudie) Hammer, Layton; Douglas L. ( Leslie) Hammer, Harrisville; Teryl (Kandy) Hammer, Kaysville; and daughter, Sharon (David) Burland, North Salt Lake; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Hammer; and one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Canyon Hollows LDS Ward, 1550 Rushton. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
