Lorraine (Barker) Arvonen, 94, of Durham, CA passed away on December 17, 2025.
Lorraine was born June 6, 1931, in North Ogden, Weber County, Utah, to Charles Newman Barker and Elizabeth Howell Lee. She was the sixth of eight children and grew up on a farm where she raised turkeys with her siblings. She graduated from Weber High School in 1950 and married George Paul Arvonen August 5, 1950, in Elko, Nevada.
They started their family in San Francisco as Paul worked for the fire department, and they later moved to Durham, California, where Paul was a dentist and where they have spent the remainder of their lives. Lorraine was involved in serving the Durham community and supporting her children as each of them received their education at Durham Unified School District. She grew up in a religious home and touched many lives as a children’s teacher in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Lorraine is survived by her husband of 75 years, George Paul Arvonen; their five children, George Mark (Donna) Arvonen, Charles Michael Arvonen, Paul Mitchell (Luann) Arvonen, Elizabeth Michelle Arvonen, and Lorra Marie (Joseph) Lake; as well as 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
