Lori Jean Pippin Nelson, 70, of Riverdale, Utah, passed peacefully at home on July 8, 2025, with a Willie Nelson song playing softly in the background.
Her greatest pride (and most frequent topic of conversation) was her sons, Porter Dalton (partner, Kate Keipp), Jesse Nelson (wife, Tiffany), and Nick Nelson (wife, Emilie). She called them her #BestDamnKidsOnThePlanet, and not just because she was their mom, but because she genuinely believed it. She was also a fiercely proud grandma to Tristen Nelson, Jesse and Tiffany's son, and embraced her place in their lives without ever trying to replace a thing, just adding warmth, humor, and love along the way.
Lori is also survived by her brother, Terry Pippin, his wife, Zina, and her nephews, Jacob, Joel, and Jared, who gave Aunt Lowi plenty of stories to tell.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rick Nelson, and her parents, Jack and Beverly Pippin, who we're sure were waiting to greet her with open arms, a cocktail, and a comfy chair by the campfire.
She was a lifelong lover of live music, always showing up to support her son and other local musicians, bursting with pride and a big smile. But her favorite musician was Willie Nelson. She attended over 30 of his concerts and even got a kiss on the cheek from him once—a story she was more than happy to retell. It's only fitting that she's now truly on the road again, headed somewhere with great company, no lines, and no bad seats.
When she wasn't glamping and spending time with her family, Lori could be found teaching water aerobics to her devoted group of "mermaids and mermen" at Clearfield Aquatic Center. Her splashy routines and sassy spirit brought joy, laughter, and friendship.
Lori's family would like to profusely thank the medical staff at Utah Hematology and Oncology, Ogden Regional Medical Center, Pine View Transitional Rehab, Applegate Home Health, and Quality Home Health for taking the best care of our sweet mamma.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. A celebration of Lori's life will be held at Riverdale City Park, Pavilion #5, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, with services beginning at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to attend a local concert, donate to a local band, or share a story around the campfire, preferably all three.
