Lola Hazel Thompson Nichols

February 8, 1936 — October 2, 2022

North Ogden

Lola Hazel Thompson Nichols returned to her father in heaven and was reunited with her family on October 2, 2022.  Lola was born at home, during a blizzard on February 8, 1936, in Mountain View, Wyoming to Alvin Clifton Thompson and Hazel Audra Stringer Thompson. She was the youngest of 4 children. She lived in Wyoming for 6 years before her family moved to Ogden, Utah. Her family moved to Murray, Utah when she was in the 6th grade. She attended and graduated from Granite High School. She played All Star softball.

Lola was married and sealed for time and all eternity to Darrell Kenneth Nichols on November 4, 1955, in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple. They had two children, Michael and Colette. Lola always wanted a big family, so they added Marilyn Dennison and Alfrieda Poyer to their family through the Lamanite Placement Program and Francisco Dal Fabbro, Fernando Dal Fabbro, Tais Bonilha, Sergio, & Bernardo through a Brazilian Foreign Exchange Student Program. Lola and Darrell built a home in Syracuse, Utah where they lived for 45 years. They tended to a large garden, horses, chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats, & cows.

Lola loved doing crafts, crocheting, making things to give away to others, working on family history, & spending time with her kids and grandkids. She loved adventure including camping, boating, skiing, and traveling. Some of her trips included Disneyland, Chicago, New York, Yellowstone, Marsh Lake, Nauvoo, Springfield Illinois, Flaming Gorge, Lake Powell, Branson Missouri, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, an Alaska Cruise, Hawaii, Disneyworld, and a Caribbean Cruise.

Lola had a deep and abiding faith in her loving Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served diligently in several callings in many different organizations, including 8 years as a Cub Scout Master, which she loved. She and her husband also served a mission at the Church History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah documenting the travels of the early pioneers.  This was supposed to be a 6-month mission, but they loved it so much that they extended several times changing their mission from a 6-month mission to a 17-year mission.  They would have loved to keep going however, their mission was halted when the pandemic temporally closed the Church History Building.

Lola was preceded in death by her loving family including her parents, Alvin and Audra Thompson; and her sister, Glenna Landes; and her brothers, Duane Thompson and Victor Thompson.

She is survived by her adoring husband, Darrell of Syracuse; son, Michael (Sharon) Nichols of West Jordan; daughter, Colette (Eric) Mosher of North Ogden; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
