Lois Marie Miller Hanselman

Lois Marie Miller Hanselman passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 after a valiant fight with a prolonged illness. Her devoted and loving husband was at her side. She was born in Ogden, Utah, July 5, 1951 to Lynn and Norma Engelke Miller. She was the baby of the family with three sisters and a brother.

She grew up in South Ogden and attended South Ogden Junior High, Bonneville High School, and Steven Henager School of business. She worked in various positions using her amazing secretarial skills. Her last position was with Leon Poulsen construction as an office manager.

As a young woman, Lois joined a square dancing group, "The Single Swingers." Don Hanselman was also a member and as he puts it, "I picked out the prettiest one." Lois married Donald George Hanselman, March 28, 1975, in Ogden, Utah, and instantly became a "step in" mother of two teenage boys. The way was not easy, but they all persevered and grew into a family with mutual respect and love for each other.

Besides square dancing in her younger years, Lois enjoyed needlepoint and cross- stitching. She had some beautiful pieces that she shared with family and friends. She loved her grandkids and was known to brag just a bit about them. The grandkids have special memories of going to Lagoon with Grandma Lois. She was also an avid Jazz Fan and enjoyed attending games with grandkids, other family and friends. She was also known to decorate cakes, enjoy a good bowl of banana nut ice cream, and watch movies. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was able to share her enjoyment of music in many of her callings such as ward choir member/director, and primary chorister and teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Don, her children, Robert Harold Hanselman (Mary), and Thomas Donald Hanselman (Christina), grandchildren, Jody, Katreasha, Megan, Garet, and Gavin (the most perfect grandchildren in history), sisters, Delores Merrill, June Mitton (Emory) who proved to be a comfort and source of strength throughout her illness, and sister-in-law Marilyn Hagedon (Bruce). She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Kurtis and Madelynn, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much and her sweet little dog Maisy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Kenneth Miller, sister, MarJean, sister-in-law, Erma Suessmuth, and brother-in-law, Max Merrill.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. with Bishop Scott Hughes, officiating. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

Heartfelt thanks to those who cared for Lois at Crestwood Care Center, and Dr. Michael Woolman.
