Linda McCarty Cottrell
1944 ~ 2021
Linda Grace McCarty Cottrell passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021 in Layton, Utah after a four year battle with the after-effects of a stroke and recently a short illness which led to a second stroke. She was born on March 15, 1944 in Ogden, Utah the second child and daughter to her parents Betty Marie Denny and Herbert Greyson (Mack) McCarty. She and her mother and sister lived with family in Milford, Utah while her father served in the Navy during WWII. After the war they returned to Ogden, then moved to Layton, and finally to Kaysville, Utah.
Linda graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, and then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah before taking a job at Hill Air Force Base where she met her husband Wayne A. Cottrell. They were married on September 23, 1964 in Nevada and immediately moved to Van Nuys, California so Wayne could continue his education while Linda worked. Following graduation they moved back to Utah. They were later divorced.
Linda also worked at American Express and Horizon Publishing.
She was a feisty, generous, and thoughtful sister to Lynetta M. Cottrell and Gary D. McCarty. She was a kind friend, and a loving and devoted mother of two daughters, Lisa (Lys) A. Cottrell, Kelly Cottrell Jackson, and one son Curtis W. Cottrell. She had eight grandchildren, Charisse Hopkins Lambert, Jaden, Ethan, Courtney, and McKenna Pierce, and Kai, Dylan, and Asher Cottrell.
Linda had many interests throughout her life. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and became an endowed member in her later years. She had a deep faith and love for her Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. She learned to paint at an early age and continued with drawing, painting, and doing ceramics throughout her life. She also enjoyed listening to beautiful music. Linda was a wonderful cook and loved to make tasty Mexican and Italian dishes. She had a famous enchilada recipe which she would serve on special occasions. She loved spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren. She was often called upon to assist with her grandchildren, and never hesitated to lend a helping hand for as long as she was needed. Linda was one of the kindest most considerate people to have walked this earth and will be dearly missed.
After suffering a stroke four years ago, she was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Lys, and enjoyed the sweet companionship of Lys’ dog Princess Lady Arwen.
