Lillian Schmidt Redford

January 27, 1931 — November 28, 2025

Listen to Obituary

Our cherished mother and grandmother, Lillian Schmidt Redford, returned home peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the age of 94 in Layton, Utah, surrounded by the love of her family.

Lillian was born on January 27, 1931, to Nellie May Bangerter and Andrew Schmidt in Granger, Utah. She had a bright and gentle spirit that drew people to her. She married James William Redford Jr. on April 14, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their story began at a Swiss Days dance in Midway, Utah, and together they built a home in Layton filled with faith, music, hard work, and laughter.

Lillian’s faith was the quiet foundation of her life. She had a deep love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and a powerful testimony of the gospel. The temple was her sanctuary, and she served willingly and joyfully in many callings. Her home was always open, her hands always busy serving, and her heart always ready to give.

She loved music—especially when it was played or sung by her family. Nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by her posterity. With 11 siblings, 11 children, and generations of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, there was always someone to hug, someone to cheer on, and someone to spoil. Each one felt her warmth, her patience, and her complete love.

Lillian was preceded in death by her eternal companion James; her 11 siblings; her sons Michael and Steven Redford; her daughters Patricia Redford and Karen Muir; and her grandson Justin Redford. What a joyous reunion they must be having.

She is lovingly remembered by her sons Gary (Marsha) Redford, Darrell (Cathy) Redford, and Don Redford; her daughters Sharlene Redford, Victoria Falslev, Tammy (Bob) McGrath, and Kristine (Cameron) Parker; as well as her son-in-law Russell (Karen, deceased) Muir, daughter-in-law Jaylene (Steven, deceased) Redford, and her many grandchildren who will forever carry her influence in their hearts.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends and loved ones may visit with the family Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
