Leora "Lee" Vorhees Alumbaugh

Leora “Lee” Vorhees Alumbaugh Leora “Lee” Vorhees Alumbaugh passed away February 24, 2012. She was born January 5, 1931 in Aurora, Nebraska to Allen B. Vorhees and Norma M. Campbell Vorhees. Her father was a farmer. Lee was hard working and had been since age 11 when her father passed away and she hired out as a mother’s helper. Lee married Fred Burleson in November 1946 and had two children, Wanda “Carol” and Dennis L. Burleson. Fifteen years later, they divorced. She was a good mother and taught her children how to respect others and the value of honest work. She later married the love of her life Orvil “Bud” Alumbaugh on November 4, 1962 and became a loving stepmother to his two children, Robert and Shawn Alumbaugh. They moved to Las Vegas for the dry climate that helped with Bud’s allergies. Lee was able to be near her sister Audrey Wall and her family. Lee began working for the Clark County School District, as a Baker. She retired in 1991 to take care of her ailing husband and then her mother. She loved cooking for family and friends, and having parties. Lee’s grandchildren have many fond memories of her beautiful home, big sunglasses, bigger cars and larger than life attitude. Lee and Bud had 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons. She became active in her Church activities and worship at the International Church of Las Vegas, where she had a large church family and she excelled as a Prayer Warrior. For unknown reason, Lee became deathly ill in February 2004 and became unable to care for herself. Her daughter Carol and husband Warren Williams welcomed her into their home in Plain City, Utah. Carol cared for her mother for many years, with the help of Liz Hall CNA and Terrin Powell CNA and of Home Care and Hospice. Lee passed away after only 2 ½ weeks at a nursing home due to multi organ failure. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; son, Denny; and 2 brothers, Roger and Willard. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Canyon Road Assembly of God, 1390 Canyon Rd., Ogden Utah. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. The family wishes to express their gratitude to her CNA’s and Curo Home Care and Hospice and to the staff at Lomond Peak Care Center, for their loving care and friendship to the family.
