Lenora Bachman

April 3, 1957 ~ September 28, 2021

On Tuesday afternoon of September 28, 2021, our beautiful and vibrant wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Lenora Bachman, passed from her earthly bonds into the arms of her loving Savior after fighting a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her family in comfort and love.

Lenora was born April 3,1957 in Ogden, Utah to Richard and Molly West. She attended Ogden City Schools where she was an active and excellent student who enjoyed reading and learning. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Education from BYU.

Lenora taught first grade for 33 years, mostly at Uintah Elementary School. Throughout this time, she educated nearly 1,000 students, focusing on the vital skills of reading and writing. Lenora had a special interest in space exploration and had the opportunity to attend a teacher-level week of Space Camp in Huntsville, AL. Near the end of her career, she helped Uintah Elementary start a Chinese Immersion program. She was passionate about the opportunities that this program would provide for the children of Ogden, Utah.

Shortly after beginning her career, Lenora became a mother. She was a selfless, devoted caregiver who strived to provide her children with every opportunity to participate in sports, dance and other hobbies, never missing a game or performance. She instilled confidence in her children through positive words, encouragement, chocolate chip cookies and support. She raised her children to have faith in Jesus Christ and taught them how to access the enabling power of His atonement. Lenora took pride in her children and grandchildren, speaking of them often and filling her home with hundreds of framed photographs.

In the early 2000s, she met and married Robert “Bob” Bachman. They built a life together in Eden, Utah. They shared a passion for adventure, taking countless trips with their trailer, boat and ATVs. A favorite destination was Moab. Despite being a beautiful woman who always had her hair and makeup done to perfection, Lenora was just as happy when her face was covered in dirt after a fun ride on the trail.

She was active and full of life. She regularly exercised, hiked, walked and trail ran with her dogs around Pineview reservoir. She challenged herself by completing triathlons and ½ marathons. She traveled to Singapore, Thailand and around the Northwest with her daughter and to New York, Mexico and around New England with her sons.

Lenora was a kind and gracious woman who served her Savior, Jesus Christ. She held many callings as a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served her community by giving time, treats (her caramels were legendary) and effort for the benefit of those who needed it. Her neighbors joke that they could never “beat” her in gift and card giving. When they’d drop something off, it was almost as if she had a thank you card in their mailbox before they got home. This characteristic helped her maintain hundreds of friendships. She nurtured relationships with neighbors, colleagues, her card making club as well as dear friends from high school.

Throughout her battle with cancer, Lenora kept a positive and faithful outlook. She showed incredible strength and inspired many. She fought alongside her family, especially her husband Bob, who was a devoted caregiver to the very end. Lenora was extremely grateful and gracious to all of the healthcare workers who treated her over the past 2 years. Most of her medical team members were female-a fact that Lenora delighted in. Her family would like to specifically thank Theresa Werner and the oncology team at Huntsman Cancer Institute, Jessica Hunn and the Intermountain Healthcare oncology team, Dr. Carabine, Dr. Caillouet and the oncology team at McKay-Dee Hospital and CNS Community Hospice.

Lenora is survived by her husband, Robert Bachman of Eden; three children, Mason (Suzannah) Unck of Scottsdale, AZ, Stacey Unck of Salt Lake City, and Preston (Danielle) Unck of North Ogden; also Zach Bachman of Eden and Brett Bachman of Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Boston, Ava, Holland and Nash Unck; and siblings, Richard (JoAnn) West of Thatcher and Melinda (Phil) Johnson of St. George. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Dustin Unck, who passed away in 1985.
