Leah Brown Stitt peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, surrounded by family. Leah was born on February 21, 1938, to Frank and Alice Medell Brown, the youngest of five children.
Leah was born and raised in Ogden, Utah, graduating from Ogden High School. She first met James East Stitt in 1944, at their baptism into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They met again, 11 years later, and married on October 25, 1956. Later, they solemnized their vows in the Ogden Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 13, 1982. They have been blessed with five children, eleven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Leah and Jim raised their family in the Army, living in North Carolina, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, and Utah. Family gatherings were a tradition and were always special to them. Leah was preceded in death by her beloved husband in June 2019, just 4 months short of their 63rd anniversary.
Throughout her life, Leah was a very artistic person who had a beautiful voice, loved to sing, wrote plays, was a talented seamstress, and loved reading, cooking, puzzles, her gardens, and her Christmas village. She also served in numerous capacities in the church, including teaching Seminary in our home during the 70’s. At one time, while living in Alabama, Jim and Leah held 21 church callings between the two of them! Together, Leah and Jim co-founded Jelsco Awards and Signs in Ogden, Utah, in 1992. They enjoyed helping people, making many friends and memories along the way. Their family business continues to touch the lives of others, a legacy we all endeavor to keep going.
Leah is survived by her five children, Roger (Ardith) Stitt, Kathy (Dru) Rigby, Ralph (Becky) Stitt, Janean (Greg) Haeffele and Roy Stitt; all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as her brother, Jay (Dodie) Brown.
Leah was an amazing woman with faith, strength, and determination. Having struggled with illness and physical handicaps for the majority of her life, she never gave up hope of finding ways to fix those problems. A true fighter, she was an inspiration to many as she overcame and endured repeatedly. A loving wife and mother, wonderful friend, a deeply caring person, Leah’s memory lives on in the hearts of all who loved her. She will be deeply missed.
