LayCee Houghton Barnett

March 29, 1995 — January 15, 2024

Farmington

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend, LayCee Houghton Barnett. She unexpectedly passed away on January 15, 2024, at the young age of 28, after a strong but short fight with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. During her final moments, she was surrounded by her loving husband and family, providing her with comfort and support. Our hearts ache as we remember her.

LayCee was born on March 29, 1995 in American Fork, Utah. She graduated from Wasatch High School in 2013 and went on to attend Southern Utah University where she graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance Performance.

LayCee came into the world bringing light and happiness with her. Throughout her life she shared this with everyone around her. You couldn’t help but smile when she entered the room, usually dancing her way in. LayCee was strong, a little bit sassy, kind and loving. She fought fiercely for the ones she loved when she needed to and made sure that everyone around her felt included and valued. Dancing was one way that she shared her light throughout her life, and you would constantly find her doing a little jig wherever she was. LayCee loved to be outdoors and on an adventure. She spent her life making memories with her family in the mountains and red rocks doing the things she loved.

LayCee first met her husband, Josh, at a surprise party for a friend of hers in June 2012. Little did she know that the real surprise was that she was meeting her future husband! They began dating in November 2013, and on July 23, 2016 they went on an epic date hiking Mount Timpanogos together, where they had their first kiss, some crazy experiences and became an official couple. Their first ‘I love you’ was on November 6, 2016. Josh proposed on October 15, 2017. LayCee and Josh were married April 6, 2018 in the Bountiful LDS Temple, where they were sealed for eternity.

They welcomed their twins Abigail Grace and Shaylee Mae in February 2021. LayCee was a rockstar mother carrying her girls and navigating the first tricky months of becoming a new mom to twins. She had an amazing way of engaging with her girls and she loved them with all her heart.

LayCee is survived by her parents Dale and SherRon Houghton and in laws Steve and Jennifer Barnett; her husband Josh Barnett; her twin girls, Abi, and Shay; her siblings Alisha (Taylor) Oxley, Heather (Trent) Homer, Sydney (Derek) McGovern, Dakota (Haley) Houghton, Andrew (Rachel) Barnett, Siena (Matt) Hawkes, Joey (Caroline) Barnett and her nieces and nephews: Remi, Sadie, Clay, Mason, Dax, Ryker, Kash, Jack, Laney, Written, Tommy, Renny, Millie, Graham, Reagan, Taggert and Robyn.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, aunts and uncles.

A memorial service for LayCee is scheduled on Monday, January 22nd at 12:00 PM at Lake Creek Farms Ward, 6250 East 1200 South Heber City, Utah, 84032. It will be immediately followed by a graveside burial ceremony at Memorial Lake View Cemetery 1640 Lakeview Dr. Bountiful, Utah.
