Lavon Higgs Venstra

September 23, 1942 – November 26, 2021

Lavon Higgs Venstra, 79, lost her valiant battle to cancer, Friday evening, November 26, 2021 at home with her family by her side.

Lavon was born to Harvey W. and Virginia Hendry Higgs on September 23, 1942.

On April 22, 1961, she married the love of her life, William Venstra in Evanston, WY. She was a stay at home mom until she became a cook for Country View Elementary for many years. She enjoyed camping at Bear Lake, and taking trips to Wendover to play on the slot machines. Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Lavon is survived by her son, Billy Venstra, her daughter, Julie Funke, a grandson Coty (Chelsee) Funke, granddaughter, Hailee Funke (Garrett Gardner), great-granddaughter, Skyelee Funke, great-grandson, Jacob Funke, and one brother Rusty Higgs, and many loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, Danny Higgs, and one sister Lois Holmes Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Venstra.

“God knew you were suffering, that the hills were hard to climb, so He gently closed your eyelids, and whispered, it will be ok. In tears we watched you sinking, we watched you fade away ~ our hearts were nearly broken, you fought so hard to stay. We stood beside you all the way, and gave you all our hope. The courage and the STRENGTH, you showed, will NEVER be forgotten. We cried the day you left us, but we know you needed to. God knew you were suffering, so he gently took you home. We love you with all our hearts and you will be deeply missed."

A celebration of life will take place in the spring.

A special thank you to Atlas Hospice for their help and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family is setting up a GoFundMe https://gofund.me/e9f3c60c to help pay on some of Lavon’s medical bills. If preferred, a Venmo account is set up @Julie-Funke-5
