Listen to Obituary

Lavar Gene Peterson, 77, of Kaysville, Utah, passed away peacefully On October 22, 2025. Gene was born to Lavar and Joye Peterson on April 21, 1948 in Salt Lake. His family moved to Kaysville where he attended and graduated from Davis High School. Shortly after graduating high school, Dad joined the Air Force Reserve and attended boot camp. He was given the opportunity to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints right after his boot camp ended. He faithfully served his mission in the Eastern Atlantic States Mission.

Once he returned home from his mission, Dad continued serving in the Air Force Reserve and later joined the Army Reserve. He served in the military reserve for 30 years. He also began working at Hill Air Force Base as a civilian machinist and then went on to become a civilian planner. Shortly after his mission Gene married the love of his life, Trudee Sprague, on November 13, 1970 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They had seven wonderful children: two daughters Trish and Susan, and five sons Kirk, Brock, Davin, Travis, and Chris. Dad and Mom were faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission together at the Mesa, Arizona Visitor’s Center.

Dad loved fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, baseball, and all sports. He was a huge Utah Jazz and BYU fan. He loved going to Jazz games and BYU football games with his family. Grandpa loved his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Yellowstone and Jackson Hole were his favorite places to visit and camp. He loved hunting and shooting and was a competitive marksman in the National Guard.

Gene is survived by his wife Trudee Sprague Peterson, six children, Trish (Nate), Kirk (Jen), Brock (Jill), Davin (Kara), Travis, Chris (Brooklyn), 22 grandchildren, and sister Judy (Val). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lavar and Joye, 2 sisters Ann and Cheryl, daughter Susan, and daughter in law Margie Peterson.
