Laura Gillespie

Laura Astrid Wall Gillespie, 86, passed away on May 30, 2016 of natural causes.

She was born in Murray, Utah, the fourth daughter of Erick Wilhelm and Mimmie Sofia Sedell Wall, on November 3, 1929.  She was reared in Murray and graduated from Murray High School in 1948.

On May 28, 1950, she was married to Gilbert LeRoy Gillespie in Elko, Nevada.  After living in Salt Lake City, UT; Paris, ID; Logan, UT; Clearfield, UT; they settled in Huntsville, UT.  They were later divorced.  In 1977, Laura moved to Riverdale, UT.

She worked for Ogden City Corp. retiring in 1991 after 25 years of dedicated service.

She was active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities, and as an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden Temple from 1994 – 1998.  She was an excellent cook and loved to feed everyone who came through her door.  She became renowned for her original recipes, for fried chicken, homemade rolls, potato salad, rhubarb pie and original cooking from her ancestors in Sweden.

She is survived by her children, Michael Roy Gillespie (Linda), Diane G. Moss (Stanley), and Laurie G. Johnson (Brent); ten grandchildren, who were her pride and joy; Brian, Eric, Mark, Lisa, and Craig Moss; Asa and Alex Gillespie; Michael L. Salerno, and Cory and Jillian Johnson, and 13 great-grandchildren and counting!

Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road after which graveside services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the Huntsville City Cemetery, 6000 East 100 South, Huntsville.

The family extends a special thank you to Hospice Care of Utah, Brandi, Brooke, Lilly, Tammy and Family Tree Assisted Living, Miranda, MariLee, Cindy and Alexa and all others who took such good care of mom.
