Laura Jean Potts Evans, 89, of Farmington, Utah, passed away in calm slumber on November 28, 2025. Born on December 5, 1935, in Woodland, Utah, to Nettie May Page and Leland Potts, Jean was the third of five children; her siblings were Eldora, Naomi, Carolee, and Garth.
Jean lived a full life as a devoted spouse and loving mother. She was a wonderful cook and bread-maker, avid gardener, and an exquisite seamstress, having crafted all five of her daughters' wedding dresses. She created hand-stitched quilts, intricate cross-stitch pieces, and beautiful Christmas decorations, making her home a place of warmth and wonder. She enjoyed singing in the Bountiful and Farmington choirs, passing to her children a lifelong love of music.
Jean and her husband, Harley Hughes Evans, married in 1953, were dedicated partners, working side-by-side to raise nine children: Belinda, Tom, Laurel, Lynette, Elaine, Jess, Betty Jo, Ken, and Garn. They purchased a 12-acre farm in 1967 in Farmington, where they lived and taught industriousness and morals to their children while raising livestock, keeping bees, and tending to an orchard. Jean managed the family garden, providing fresh and canned fruits and vegetables for the whole family year-round. Her garden was an inspiration to all who saw it; Jean's green thumb was truly legendary. This dedication to cultivation and growth extended beyond the soil. Lifelong learners themselves, Jean and Harley stressed the importance of education, supporting all nine children as they each attended college.
A woman of deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, Jean loved the Savior and the scriptures. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jean and Harley were committed to serving others. They served as missionaries in the Salt Lake Temple Square Visitors Center and faithfully served as ordinance workers in the Ogden and Bountiful Temples.
Laura Jean is survived by 8 of her 9 children, 51 grandchildren, and 72 great-grandchildren. 1 great-great grandchild.
