Larry Dee Scott

(1938-2014)

Our husband, father, mentor and friend departed from us on March 8, 2014. While we mourn the passing of such a great man, we are comforted in knowing that while he lived, he lived well. There was no hobby or adventure that he undertook half-heartedly, a legacy that carries on in his children, grandchildren and others who knew him. Larry was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on October 12, 1938 to Wayne and Thea Scott, siblings; Shirley Dvorak, Linda Sisneros, Welby Scott, Perry Scott, and Renee Brady.

In his formative years, Larry discovered and thrived in professional bodybuilding.  After winning Mr. Idaho 1959, Larry moved to Venice, California with his childhood friend Don Williams, where they trained to be engineers and bodybuilders.  He won several bodybuilding titles including: Mr. California 1960, Mr. Pacific Coast 1961, Mr. America 1962, Mr. Universe 1963 and 1964, and finally, Mr. Olympia in 1965 and 1966.

Larry applied the same amount of passion he had for bodybuilding into pursuing and attaining the attention of Rachel Ichikawa. They married on October 29, 1966 and were sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on July 24, 1971. Together they had five children; Derek (son Adam), Sumie (son Alexander Edwards), Michael (daughter Jessica Sedgwick), Sakae, spouse Michelle (children Jonah, Isabelle and Samuel), and Nathan, spouse Anita (son Rai).

Larry was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and felt great solace in having the gospel in his life. He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Thea Scott, his sister Shirley Dvorak, his brother Perry Scott and his two sons Derek and Michael Scott.

He knew when he passed he would be greeted by his sons and family. Please take him in your arms and share in an embrace that we no longer can.

We love you dad and we are proud to see you complete your life on this earth with such grace and courage.
