Ruth LaRae Day Whiteley

September 3, 1938 — September 14, 2023

Ruth LaRae Day Whiteley, 85, beloved Wife and Mother passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Intermountain McKay-Dee Hospital surrounded by her six children.

 

LaRae was born September 3, 1938 in Ogden, Utah to Gerald and Ruth Mann of Kaysville.  She was raised and educated in Kaysville Utah Schools and graduated from Davis High School in 1956.  She married Larry B. Day January 16, 1970 in Kaysville, Utah.  They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.  After dad’s passing in 2007, she married Donald L. Whiteley on September 5, 2008 in Kaysville.

 

Mom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She loved her scripture studies. She served in various church callings throughout her life.  She served a Service Mission as a Missionary Host at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

 

Mom worked Civil Service for almost 30 years, taking out an early retirement to care for her mother.  She spent 12 years in retirement in Mesa, Arizona. While living there in the retirement community she worked as the Office Manager and Activities Director. She loved her interaction with everyone living there. Returning back to Kaysville in 2003, she worked for Utah Power & Light and was the greeter at RC Willey.

 

She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them every chance she could.  She was an avid BYU and Jazz Fan.  She loved reading, sewing, crocheting, making ceramics, shuffleboard, bowling, rodeos, and playing the organ.  She loved her pets and spoiled them rotten.

 

She was well known in Kaysville as “The Cotton Candy Lady” during the 4th of July celebrations that were held for many years.

 

Mom loved her Pioneer Heritage. She participated many years in DUP in the Weinel Mill Camp currently serving as Captain for the last five years.

 

LaRae is survived by her husband Donald L. Whiteley, her children; Zane (Debbie) Day, Debbie Boyce (Mark), Jeff (Ranae) Day, RaeDell Day, Kelly Day, Crystal Cook (John), 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, her stepchildren; Melanie Shropshire (Mike), Brenda Childs (Scott), Daren Whiteley (Sam Maddox), Gaylen (Angie) Whiteley, Heather Singley (Tyler), 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Larry B. Day of 37 years, her parents Gerald and Ruth Mann, two brothers; Paul and Reed, one granddaughter Misti and one great grandson Bryce.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville Spencer Chapel, 500 S. Main Street, Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

 

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
