KIMBERLY KINCAID GARFIELD

FEBRUARY 14, 1953 – APRIL 27, 2016

KAYSVILLE:  Our beloved mother, wife, grandma, sister, daughter, friend and fellow artist, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. She was surrounded by so much love from her family and dear friends to send her “On”…. onto the next journey of life.

Kimberly was born on February 14, 1953, in Downey, CA.  She was the second daughter born to Wallace Dewey Kincaid Jr. and Mona Lou Felton. She graduated from Downey High School and attended 2 years at Cerritos Jr. College, CA. Her childhood was filled with riding horses, being fascinated with all things creepy-crawly, and drawing in her sketchbook that was forever in her hand. She also developed a life-long love and talent of music and became the guardian of creatures great and small.

Her life changed course when two LDS missionaries introduced her to her all-time favorite book, the Book of Mormon. On April 5, 1971 she chose to be baptized and become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her profound testimony of her Savior and Redeemer is Kim’s greatest treasure. Kim’s life and art are an outward expression of her love of the gospel truths and knowledge.

Kimberly married the “most selfless and hard-working man I know”, Vance Smith Garfield, on March 29, 1973, in the LDS Los Angeles Temple, CA.  Together they created 6 children, who in turn, created for them, 19 amazing grandchildren.

Kim is a creative and imaginative force.  She is a freelance illustrator who loves storytelling, and the creative, expressive energy required to tell that story on canvas. She was mentored generously and inspired by so many in the art community, and in turn, she was always willing to share her passion with others.

She is a seeker of truth, knowledge, light and beauty. She is kind, insightful, inquisitive, generous and humble. She is feisty and can banter with her witty humor. She has the ability to make anyone feel important and special. She is ever the compassionate listener with words of counsel and wisdom to impart. She is a lover of books, myth, fantasy, nature and song.  None of her grandchildren could rival “Gramma” Kimmy’s LEGO collection.  Her love and devotion to her family is unwavering.

Kim’s love, memories and influence will forever shine through her husband, Vance, and children: Erinne (Brian) Roundy, Sarah (Jeff) Hirschi, Michael (Bevany) Garfield, Audrey (Kirk) Laser, Seth Kincaid, and Hilary (Erik) Carlson; Her 18 Grandchildren; her sweet mother, Mona Lou and siblings: Wendy (John) Thacker, Chris (Genie), Daniel, Michael (Rita); and her beloved cat companions, Sophie and Tucker.

Her granddaughter, Moran, and her father, Wally, precede Kim in her onward journey.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Kaysville Cemetery.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the Emergency and Intensive Care staff at Davis Hospital and Medical Center for their exceptional care and concern on behalf of our mother. Thank you for giving us a little more time to say goodbye.
