Kazuko "Kay" Kawaguchi

Kazuko "Kay" Kawaguchi passed away on Saturday morning, November 24, 2012, due to an extended illness. She was born on January 12, 1928, to Chohachi and Tome Fujita in Cobre, Nevada and lived there until her early teenage years, when she moved to Utah. She graduated from Davis High School in 1945.

Kay married Iwashige "Shige" Kawaguchi on May 23, 1948 in Roy, UT. Together they had six children, Dennis (Debbie) Kawaguchi, Kaysville; Gary (Marie) Kawaguchi, West Haven; Janice (Alan) Aoki, Layton; Harvey (Victoria) Kawaguchi, Upland, CA; Allan (Jan) Kawaguchi, Clearfield; and Theron Kawaguchi, Roy.

She was well-known for her attendance at her grandchildren''s various sports and dance activities, her love of the Utah Jazz and her passion for baseball. It was not uncommon to find her listening and watching multiple games on the radio and television simultaneously. After raising her family and helping on the Kawaguchi family farm for many years, she worked alongside her friends at Stoker''s Nursery in Syracuse. Kay was a member of the Shizuoka Kenjin Kai and the Nichiren Buddhist Church Fujinkai.

Kay is survived by her 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, sister, Yukiko Kawaguchi, Clearfield; brother, Jun Fujita, Las Vegas, NV; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shige and sisters, Misa Yamagata and Hanako Fujinami.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special appreciation to all those who helped care for Kay at Chancellor Gardens, including those from Applegate and the many family members that contributed to her care.
