Listen to Obituary

Our sweet Kathy Lynn Gardner passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 5, 2025. She was born in Provo, Utah on August 10, 1954 to loving parents Norman Donald and Jeannine Coombs Sullivan. She grew up in Kaysville, Utah as the big sister of her three younger siblings, whom she loved dearly.

She graduated from Davis High School where she danced as a D’Ette on the drill team, played the Cello, and won awards for her paintings and drawings. After graduation she attended Weber State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree.

Kathy married Terry Neal Gardner on June 20, 1975 in the Salt Lake Temple and they made their home in Layton, Utah where they enjoyed over 50 years of love and partnership together.

She was a happy and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many callings in the Primary and music organizations. She served as Primary Chorister, Primary Teacher, Primary President, Stake Primary President, Relief Society Teacher and most recently as the Ward Chorister, which she enjoyed tremendously.

Kathy grew up with a love of music, initially instilled in her by her father, Norman. She enjoyed singing with him and her sister on any occasion. She had a beautiful soprano voice which she shared with many choirs throughout her life. Kathy enjoyed bowling and bowled in many local leagues. She enjoyed scrapbooking and spent hours creating beautiful books of art and preserving the memories of her family. She crocheted the softest, most beautiful baby blankets and hats. She loved cooking Sunday dinners for and gathering with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed creating and preserving holiday traditions for her family and helping to host and make gingerbread houses with her grandkids each year. She was always a warm, and soft space to land with a hug that made her loved ones feel safe and accepted.

She is survived by her loving husband, Terry N. Gardner, children; Richelle Dowler (Rob), Deeann Hansen (Jeremy), David N. Gardner (Pam), Melissa Gardner, two brothers; Tim Sullivan and Jef Sullivan and her six grandchildren; Dexter, June, Duncan, Conor, Kailyn, and Harrison.

Kathy was preceded in death by her cherished parents Norman and Jeannine Sullivan, her father and mother-in-law V. Milas and Jeneal Gardner, and her sister Robba Lee Johnson, who was one of her dearest friends.

The family would like to thank her surgical team and oncology team at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the many doctors and nurses that cared for Kathy.
