Rhea Kathleen Reeder Corry was born on July 25, 1941. She was nurtured by her loving parents, Rhea Dunn Reeder and Norman Freeman Reeder. Early on, Kathee exhibited a high degree of musical gifts. She had perfect pitch and played the piano by ear. This led to a lifetime of musical service to her family, church, and community as she composed vocal and piano arrangements and directed choirs and musical groups. In recent years, Kathee was a volunteer pianist at McKay-Dee Hospital. Whenever Kathee played the piano, she had a way of communicating with people’s hearts, evoking beautiful emotions and spiritual feelings. Most importantly, her music was enjoyed by her husband and family members. Many of her children and grandchildren continue her legacy through music and the arts.
From her early school days and into college, Kathee was involved in student government, musicals, and various leadership roles. She was a natural leader who reached out in love, inclusion, and friendship to all. Kathee lived the principle of “where much is given, much is required.” She served a mission in Tampa, Florida, from 1962 to 1964. As a missionary, she learned and taught gospel principles that would bless her entire life. After returning from her mission, she married her eternal sweetheart, Lawrence Lee Corry, in the Logan, Utah temple on May 29, 1964. Their family was blessed with six children.
Kathee regarded her calling as a mother with the utmost importance and dedication. She was consistent and meticulous in teaching her children—by word and example—principles such as showing respect and manners toward others, having kindness and compassion for all, performing tasks with precision, and giving 100 percent to every assignment. She was an influential mentor to the youth and peers she associated with in church. Those she mentored often have returned to share how much her example and teachings have impacted their lives.
Kathee inherited the talent of being a wonderful cook from her own mother. She also was a gifted decorator and made her home a heaven—not only for her children and grandchildren, but also for others who stayed there. Many foreign-exchange students, as well as her children’s friends, would affectionately call her “mom,” and some of their children called her “grandma.” One of Kathee’s hallmark qualities was being an excellent listener. When others spoke to her, they knew they had her full attention. All who knew Kathee felt validated, loved, and accepted because of the way she expressed love through deep listening.
She was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Lawrence Lee Corry and is survived by her children, Kamille Corry of Salt Lake City, UT; Todd (Annette) Corry of Kaysville, UT; Matthew (Sarah) Corry of Honolulu, HI; Jill (Larry) Hambleton of South Jordan, UT; Steffani (Tandy) Whitaker of American Fork, UT; and Melanee (Vincent) Ardizzone of Pleasant View, UT.
Kathee is a grandmother to seventeen wonderful grandchildren: Kipling, Roman, Bria, Emme, Quinn, Aloe, Pearl, Summer, Jasmine, Jade, Levi, Asia, Enoch, Estelle, Alec, Quentin, and Matteo. Grandma was a champion of each grandchild, highlighting their talents and gifts and making them feel like they could take on the world. Grandkids always felt validated and uplifted after visiting with Grandma.
Kathee was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest brother, David Reeder. She is survived by her dear siblings, (Beth) Reeder, Danny (Kaye) Reeder, Deanne (Bob) Krey, Norma (Danny) Nomura, and Colleen (Bill) Barker. She is also survived by her closest friend, Marsha Ferrin Packard, who is like a sister to her. Some of Kathee’s closest friends who graced her home include Karen Arbon Lloyd, Ville Hollanti, Murielle Marquet Inman, Didier Marquet, Pierre-Michel Durieux, Sophie Durieux, Fred Medsker, John Schoenfeld, Helene and Steve Yang, Nancy Telford Barron, Krista Miner Sidwell, June Tan Parker, Shu-Wei Huang, and Judy Wu.
Our family is profoundly grateful for all the relatives, friends, neighbors, church members, and medical professionals who loved our mother and so competently cared for her throughout her life and in recent years. We also feel deep gratitude for the staff at CNS Hospice and Whisper Cove who helped our family and mother during the last part of her life.
