Karlene Louise Bakker of South Ogden Utah passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving Husband, children, and Grandchildren.

Karlene was born on August 1st, 1938, to loving parents, Stanley, and Louise Parkin. She grew up in Bountiful, Utah. She was the oldest of 8 children and was the only girl until she was 23 years old, finally her mother’s last child was a girl. When she was young her family moved to Oregon and lived on a farm. During her teenage years they moved to Bountiful where she graduated from Davis High School. Karlene had a love for animals. She was the Vice President of Intermountain Cavy Breeders Association and a member of the National Rabbit Club. She would take her animals and show them in the county and state fairs. She had Ribbons all over her room that she had won at these fairs. Her Mother called her the “Dr Doolittle” of the small animal kingdom. She had the same deep love for all people.  After raising her 8 children, she went back to school and received a degree in Nursing. She had a long career of serving others while in the medical field.

Karlene is survived by her loving husband Hendrik (Henk) Bakker and adored by her children Rick (Laurie) Barlow, Scott (Hydee) Barlow, Rob (Dani) Barlow, Heidi (Rick) Hansen, Dirk (Megan) Barlow, Eric (Angie) Barlow, Matthew (Amanda) Barlow, Rachel Gelser, Kevin Bakker (Tim), Kristina Weaver, Tamera (Pat) Larsen and Greg Durand; She has 44 talented grandchildren who she dearly loved along with, 28 precious great grandchildren. She is survived by 4 brothers: Ed, Darrel, Dan, Randy and her sister, Cindy. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dave and Duane, first husband Richard Barlow and second husband Steve Durand.

On February 12, 2005, she married the love of her life, Henk Bakker. They adored each other and love being together. Their favorite thing to do together was to travel and see the world.

Karlene was loved by her children so much. She was so proud of her family and felt like that was her greatest accomplishment. She always made her children feel like they were special. Her favorite saying was “What did I do to deserve you guys, you’re the Best of the Best”.  She told each of her grandchildren that they were her favorite. She was a great example of love and service to others.

Karlene was a faithful Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in many callings in the Relief Society, Primary and Young Women’s. She had a strong testimony of her Heavenly Father and shared it with her children often.

We are so grateful that families can be together forever, and we will be with her again.
