Karla Mae Hendry

Karla Mae Hendry returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on October 7th, 2025. Karla passed peacefully and calmly as she rested in her final days; she passed with dignity and comfort at the age of 85. 

Karla is survived by her devoted and caretaking brother, Ken Hendry (Deanna); her niece, Brittany Jacobs (Zach); their children, Reese & Crew; as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends and loved ones whom she adored throughout her life. She also leaves behind her beloved kitties, Buddy and Sierra. Karla is preceded in death by her parents, Arvin and Alice Hendry; sisters, Arvonna, Nancy, and Cloann; brothers, Thomas (survived by wife, Sonia), Lloyd "Pete", and Arvin "Marty" (survived by wife, Susan); her great-nieces, Hunter, Keller, and great-nephew, Madden.

Karla was born on August 21st, 1940, in Tremonton, Utah. She attended West High School and later graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Sociology. Karla was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a full-time mission on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona and held numerous church callings throughout her life. She volunteered her time at the Salt Lake City Temple and graciously served the members of each ward she was part of. 

Karla dedicated her professional career to the United States Federal Government, beginning in 1966 at Hill Air Force Base in Utah. Over the years, she held a variety of roles, including clerical positions, internships, work as a Disposal Specialist, instructor roles, and positions within the Diversity and Corporate Intern Programs. Her career took her across the United States, from Utah to Michigan, and internationally to the United Kingdom and Germany. She eventually returned to the U.S and settled in Ohio. At the end of her career, Karla returned to her home state of Utah, where she spent her later years alongside her sister, Cloann, and brother Ken. In retirement, Karla graciously embraced life and thoroughly enjoyed her time by taking memorable vacations, enjoying day-to-day activities with her sister, and cherishing time as a caregiver to her great-niece, Reese.

Karla was known for her kind, gentle, and thoughtful spirit. She found great joy in serving those around her. Whether catching up over lunch, attending the gatherings of loved ones, or showing support for special events, she made everyone feel important and loved. Karla loved to travel and would often opt for a road trip over other means of transportation to enjoy the scenery, stop at landmarks, and take landscape photos along the way. Despite her busy life, Karla always found time to study church history, concentrate on the latest sudoku puzzle, or sit down to sort puzzle pieces between baking holiday goodies to share with neighbors and family. Karla had the sweetest demeanor and brought joy to all those around her. She loved to sing and would be ecstatic when anyone joined in her song. Karla always offered a cheerful disposition and would excite easily and express happiness with her well-known squeaky hands and cheeky grin! To know Karla was to know peace, patience, and love. Her presence offered comfort, and her wisdom was always shared with kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, selfless service, and unwavering faith.

 Although Karla will be deeply missed by all who loved her, we take comfort in knowing she is joyfully reunited with those who went before her. We are grateful for her example and look forward to the day we meet again.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 18th, at 11:00AM at the Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E., Bountiful, UT 84010. A viewing will be held from 10:00AM to 10:45AM. Karla will be laid to rest at the Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, UT following the funeral service. There will be a small grave dedication at the cemetery for those who wish to travel to Wellsville; however, there will not be a formal graveside service.
