Karen Nelson, 72, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, due to complications from cancer. Born on January 7, 1954, Karen was the firstborn child of Ray B. and Sharon Nelson of Ogden.
Karen's journey was defined by resilience. Karen was born with congenital rubella syndrome, which resulted in profound intellectual disability and blindness. Karen was raised in her family home until the age of 14 and was then admitted to the Utah Training School (now the Utah State Developmental Center) to receive the specialized care she needed.
Karen was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Ray and Sharon; her sister, Susan; and her brother, Scott. She is survived by her brothers, Mark and Doug, who remember her with love.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Utah State Developmental Center. For over five decades, these dedicated caregivers provided Karen with a home, a community, and compassionate service. Their commitment to her well-being and comfort will never be forgotten.
Gravesides services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
