Justin Thomas Smith

April 13, 1963 — June 27, 2025

Justin Thomas Smith passed away June 27, 2025, enjoying one of his favorite activities on a beautiful summer day.

Born April 13, 1963, to Merle Ray Smith and Mariel Berniece Sims, Justin was the youngest of two siblings behind his sister Laura Lee Smith, born March 21, 1959.

Justin and his wife Michele Smith, married for 28 years, raised seven children who are now raising kids and having adventures of their own. Known affectionately as “Papa J” to his grandchildren, Justin always had treats on hand to distribute at home or when they visited the drug store and loved to race Hot Wheels cars against them.

Justin was a fixture behind the counter at Morgan Drug, taking the mantle from Merle, who bought the store in 1964. Justin doled out prescriptions and conversation topics in equal measure, going above and beyond his station to help all who came through the doors and wider Morgan County for over 24 years.

If you’ve worn crimson and visited Rice-Eccles Stadium on a Saturday, you saw Justin cheering on his beloved Utah Utes for over three decades. His avid love of football carried through to many road trips enjoying the game with his wife and sons in stadiums around the country.

He collected motorized toys big and small in his spacious garage to enjoy the freedom of the open road and water as often as possible. Always tinkering and working with his hands, Justin enjoyed discovering the mechanics and inner workings of everything from engines to watches.

He loved golf, arena rock and country concerts, a chance to soak up the sun on family Lake Powell summer trips, and was happiest when his dogs would greet him when he arrived home from work.

Justin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Manchester, England. Justin won a Utah state football championship at Morgan High School under beloved coach Jan Smith.

Justin is survived by his wife, Michele; and seven children, Josh Cypers (Breanna), Brennan Smith (Beth), Jared Cypers (Torrie), Justin Cypers (Danielle), Cameron Smith, Caden Smith (Lynzee) and Mykelle Smith. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Justin was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
