Juergen Herbert Bergk was born on June 18, 1947. He was born in Konigsberg, Germany to Eduard and Elsa (Krebs) Bergk. He was the youngest of 3 boys with older brothers, Guenther and Diethard as his companions. The family immigrated to the United States in 1956. Juergen spoke fondly of crew members on the ship the family immigrated on for teaching him his first words in English and introducing him to his beloved Coca Cola. After arriving in New York, the family settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After high school, Juergen joined the Air Force and served from 1965 to 1970. He also furthered his education at Weber State University and the University of Phoenix.
While in the Air Force, he was stationed for a time at Hill Air Force Base and from this time he met and then married Linda Rigby. They married on August 10, 1968, and later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly after their wedding, due to the war in Vietnam, he was deployed and stationed in the Philippines. Juergen and Linda raised a family with five children living in various cities in Davis County. They now have 13 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Juergen loved adventure and fun, double bonus if this included nature! This could be bike riding, hiking, cooking, camping, fishing, toy shopping, eating, or going on many long drives. He wanted to be out and doing. He liked to tinker and there was no project he didn’t think he could conquer, although his timelines were a little off. He prided himself on caring for his family and his yard. He worked in the aerospace defense industry and retired from L3 Communications. He enjoyed many friendships from his time there. He also loved to read, go to Mountain Man Rendezvous’, attend blue grass music concerts, care for his plants, and more recently to add to his aquariums.
Juergen had a very giving nature and a tender heart. He was often known for his random acts of kindness. This could be to family and friends, but also to strangers he had never met.
Juergen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings throughout his life. He especially enjoyed his calling with family history, as at times, this was a favorite hobby as well.
Juergen was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, his parents, Eduard and Elsa Bergk, and his brothers, Guenther and Diethard. He is survived by his children Bridgette Hoke, Heather (Dan) Hughes, Jared (Jennifer) Bergk, Joshua Bergk, and McKesley (Ryan) Cunliffe. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Swaycee Hoke, Laura (Sam) Wood, Kate Hughes, Christopher (Alison) Hughes, Carter Hughes, Ethan (Bailee) Bergk, Keaten (Sarah) Bergk, Addison Bergk, Elliann Bergk, Payslee Bergk, Emersen Bergk, Krew Bergk, and Leo Cunliffe.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Covington Senior Living of Farmington for their care and support. We also want to thank the many first responders.
