Joylene Betty Pettit

November 2, 1933 ~ March 5, 2022

Our beautiful mother, Joylene Betty Pettit, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2022 in South Ogden, UT, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 2, 1933 in Ogden, UT to Milton Rowe Pettit and Vivian Beatrice Craycroft.

Mother was raised in Ogden, and graduated from Ogden High, where she was a majorette and marched in parades and at half-times. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and when her children were young, she actively served in the Primary. Playing the piano was her special gift and she was an accomplished pianist. Helping others was her calling, and she cherished her family, especially the little ones. The walls of her room were filled with pictures of generations of smiling faces.

Mother was a nurse, and worked many years in the health care profession, beginning her career at the old Dee Hospital in Ogden. At any time, one could find her sailing, traveling, motorcycle riding, attending Raptors baseball games, relaxing at Bear Lake, reading, and shopping with the girls. She loved poetry, the color yellow, crafting, and researching genealogy. As time went on and dementia took its toll, hobbies went to the wayside; however, mother’s desire to spend time with her family remained constantly with her.

Joylene is survived by her children, Catherine (Maurice) Dickinson-Claytor, Brigham City; Christine (Gary) Weicks, West Haven; Johnene Nehls, Roy; Sandra (Todd) Cook, Roy; Steven (Michelle) Eilander, Roy; and Deanna Jo (Jaun Jr) Bezan of Freer, TX; stepdaughter, Linda Tallant, Tomball, TX; daughter-in-law, Penny Draper Eilander; 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Vivian Pettit; infant brother, Wayne Pettit; sons, Rickey Lynn Eilander, Daniel Eilander, and Dean William Stone; sons-in law, Darrell Dickinson, and Arthur Nehls; grandson, Mike Willis Trevino;  great-granddaughters, Nevaeh Rae Eilander and Teyrrah Andrea Eilander.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West, Roy, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Brandon Wintle and his nurse, Shelly, for her care, and to the nurses who cared for her so lovingly during her final days.
