Joyce Carver Burk passed away on October 29, 2025. She leaves behind three daughters, Jessica Stone-Wallace (David Tanner), Kate Ferebee (Brian), and Chris Schmitz; two grandchildren, Mallory and Brian; and her brother, Robert Carver (Anne).

Joyce will also be missed by her nieces and nephews—with whom she had very close relationships—and many lifelong friends, the closest of whom she has known from her days at Ben Lomond High School (class of 1961) and growing up in Plain City.

Always vibrant, gregarious, and loving, Joyce brightened the lives of many “bonus” children and grandchildren who were very special to her. She welcomed all with open arms, and considered you family whether there was a genealogical connection or not. Usually, there was. Joyce had dozens of first cousins from her many beloved aunts and uncles.

She was married to Lee Stone (Linda), Dick Schmitz, and Roland Burk. She was preceded in death by Dick and Roland; as well as her parents, Don Carver and LaMar Dewey; stepfather, John Dewey; her sister, Jeri Noble; and her brother, Richard Carver.

Joyce had a successful career in the banking industry. She retired from Alliance Credit Union, where she served 38 years from February 1967 to December 2003. In 1989 she became President of the Credit Union and was bestowed the title of President Emeritus through a special Resolution of Appreciation from the credit union’s Board upon her retirement. She was known as a visionary, thoughtful, and diligent employee who was devoted to the Credit Union’s members, staff and volunteers. Joyce prided herself on knowing the names of all members who walked through the credit union’s doors. Most who knew her found she had an uncanny ability to remember personal details about their spouses and children.

Joyce had an infinite capacity to love children, her family and friends, and all animals, especially dogs and birds. She volunteered with the Ogden Nature Center for many years, as well as the American Red Cross, and Christmas Box House.

At the end of her life she found very special friends among her neighbors in the White Barn Golf Course community and at Auberge Assisted Living. Her family would like to thank the staff at Auberge and A-Plus Home Health for their warm and loving care in her last days.

We are grateful for your loving heart, quick sense of humor, intelligence, strength, and resilience. We look forward to having a water fight with you again, Mom. We’ll leave the water on for you.
