Josephine Potter Faulkner

Josephine Potter Faulkner passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.  She was a resident of Layton.

She was born in Augusta, Georgia, on April 19, 1927, to George W. and Miriam Rast Potter.  She graduated from Tubman High School and continued her education by earning college credits through her employer, the United States Army.  On June 20, 1946, she married Clifton Odell Faulkner, Jr. at Christ Episcopal Church in Augusta.  She lived in the Augusta area for 80 years but moved to Northern Utah in 2007.

Josephine worked as a civil servant at Fort Gordon, Georgia, from 1965 to 1986, retiring as Chief, Resource Management Office, Directorate of Personnel and Communications and Community Activities.  She received numerous awards during her career for outstanding achievement.

She was an Episcopalian for most of her life, but she joined the Anglican Catholic Church shortly before the death of her beloved husband in 2003.  She was a member of the (Episcopal) Daughters of the King, having helped initiate the Augusta chapter.  Later she belonged to the (Anglican) Order of St. Luke.  She belonged to numerous church committees and served in varying capacities, such as church secretary, treasurer, and vestry member.  She also volunteered in the soup kitchen at Christ Church.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling and working word puzzles, and she gave generously to numerous charities.

Josephine had one daughter, Linda Jones Whitney (Tom) and one grandson Clifton Wayne Jones (Sandeep).  She also had several nieces and nephews.  She was the youngest of her parents' six children.  She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.

Friends and family will gather to remember Josephine on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the second floor Activities Room, east side, of the Independent Living building at Fairfield Village, 1205 N. Fairfield Rd., in Layton.

She will later be laid to rest beside her husband following a funeral service in Augusta, Georgia.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
