Joseph G. Tilly

June 20, 1934 — April 4, 2024

"Some cowboys never die, they just ride off into the sunset."

Joseph Pat Tilly, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on April 4, 2024, and is now exploring the Uintah Mountain backcountry. Pat was born in Fairbault, Minnesota on June 20, 1934, and later moved and settled in Utah as a young boy, growing up to be a hardworking man with love of all things outdoors. He proudly worked at Hill Air Force Base, retiring after 35 years of civil service.

Pat led a life filled with adventure, humor, and a down-to-earth charm that endeared him to all who knew him. He believed in working hard for his family and wanting to leave a legacy for his children and grandchildren.

Pat had a stern side but also had a witty off-cuff humor and down-to-earth charm to those who knew him well.

Described as a TRUE cowboy at heart, Pat was known for his love of the outdoors. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and riding horses at the cabin he purchased for his children, and children’s children to enjoy over the years. He instilled a love for the outdoors in his family and friends who will cherish the memories that they had created with him. These activities that brought him immense joy and satisfaction throughout his life.

Among his proudest accomplishments were his associations with the American Legion, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Back Country Horsemen. Pat’s dedication to these organizations reflected his deep-rooted values of community service and conservation.

Pat is survived by his sons Jeffery and Kris Tilly, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will always cherish the memories they shared with their beloved patriarch. He is also survived by extended family members, and close friends who were touched by his generosity and warmth.

He is preceded in death by his son John Tilly and daughter Joy Campbell. Their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.

In honoring the life of Joseph Pat Tilly, let us remember his laughter, his love for nature, constant complaining, endless stories, and the way he brought light into the lives of those around him. May he rest in peace knowing that he left an incredible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
