Joseph Mansfield Hughes, husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on his 90th birthday.  He was born on July 15, 1932, in Virginia, Illinois to Lloyd and Mary Hughes.  He grew up in Boise, Idaho along with his two sisters.  Joe joined the Army at age 16 and four years later joined the Air Force. He met Kathleen O’Malley in Chicago and was later married at Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix, Arizona on August 19, 1954.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Dallas LDS Temple and they celebrated 52 years of marriage.  The military took him to places all over the world and he also served in the Vietnam War.  Joe and Kathy raised four kids, Jan, Danny, George, and William.  Joe was a jet mechanic, instructor, and inspector and after retirement worked at different military bases with his wife Kathy selling jewelry and military items.

Joe was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He loved doing family history and temple work for both sides of the family.  He served faithfully in various callings but loved serving as a home teacher and ministering brother.

After the passing of Kathy, Joe married Jean Davis Puett-Blanchard on September 8, 2007, where they lived in St. George, Utah and then Spanish Fork, Utah.  They were married for 14 years.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathy, two sisters Joann and Nita, and son Dan.

He is survived by his wife Jean, children Jan (Gary), George (Kimberly), Bill (Lori), and four grandchildren, Devin, Amber, Sean, and Connor.  Special thanks to Hospice Care and the nurses and staff at Legacy House in Spanish Fork, Utah for the care and love they gave to Joe.

We will be celebrating Joe’s life with a graveside service on July 26th, 2022, 11:00 am, at Centerville City Cemetery, 650 East 400 South, Centerville, Utah.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.
