Jon Wood Shively

August 25, 1940 ~ May 1, 2016

Jon Wood Shively was born on August 25, 1940 and passed away on May 1, 2016 at McKay Dee Hospital of complications due to respiratory failure.  He was born to H. Wayne and Elma Marguerite Wood Shively in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  His family moved to WaKeeney, Kansas where he grew up.

Jon took education very seriously and had bachelor and master degrees.  He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, and as part of that service was in Vietnam.  His last Air Force assignment brought him to Hill Air Force Base.  He retired from the Air Force and had a rewarding civil service career also at Hill Air Force Base.  He then worked for Logistic Specialties, and in 2007 retired and thoroughly loved that freedom.

Jon married Donna Kaye Stephens, and they had a son and a daughter.  Later he married the love of his life, Raelene Pearl Greenhalgh Shively.

Jon loved to collect recipes and cook; many times he made up his own recipes, and then on occasion would tease Raelene for having to use an actual recipe.  Jon was a news junkie, had a collection of model airplanes that were of special significance to him because of his Air Force career, and loved cars and always kept up to date on the latest models and capabilities.  Jon was extremely intelligent and had many broad interests.

Jon is survived by his loving wife, Raelene; his daughter, Elizabeth Blake Shively; his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, Jon Eric, Earlene, and Harrison Shively; sister and brother-in-law, Verna Lou and Jim Hunter; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Blaine and Jan Greenhalgh; many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces, who loved Uncle Jon dearly.  We will always love and hold Jon close in our hearts.  Jon was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Randy Greenhalgh.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Intensive Care Unit at McKay Dee Hospital for their loving care of Jon and his family.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd, Ogden.  Friends may visit family on Saturday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.
