John Richard Shupe

John was born in Ogden, Utah in 1944 to Oscar Richard and Guinevere Hess Shupe. His best friend, David Edward Nelson was like a brother to him.

John was passionate about photography throughout his life and began taking photographs for the Ogden Standard Examiner at age 13.

While attending Ogden High School, he was a yearbook photographer and obtained the rank of captain in the Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC in high school).

He met the love of his life, Ossi Elizabeth Caporaso in 1961. They were married in 1966 and added a daughter in 1972 and son in 1975 to their family.

After high school, John continued employment as a photographer while attending Weber State University where he earned his bachelors degrees in both Sociology and Photography. During his career, John took photos for numerous entities including the Standard Examiner, Weber State University, Salt Lake Tribune, KSL TV, John Deere, South Ogden Police Department, McKay Dee Hospital, Shupe Corporate Photography, and Intermountain Health Care. He received numerous local, national, and international awards for his photographs.

Besides his family, friends, and photography; he loved ham radio, traveling,keeping up on professional associations, and his sweet dogs.

John is survived by his wife, Ossi Shupe; his children, Janene (Dennis) Lichtenberg and Robert (Rachel) Shupe; his grandchildren, Tray, Anthony, Dion, Joseph, Edie, and Rockwell; and bonus family member, April Ritzinger.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

A celebration of life will be announced in the spring. John would welcome donations to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
