John Salcido, 81, of Ogden Utah passed away on January 17, 2024. John was a retired US Navy veteran and a man who dedicated his life to helping others. John was born on August 28, 1942, in Missoula, MT, to Arnold and Mae (Matt) Salcido. He is preceded in death by his son John, brothers Vern and Gene, his sister Ramona, and his parents.
John was a man who loved storytelling and making people laugh. His greatest pleasure in life was sharing the gospel with others. He was also known for his compassionate nature and spent much of his life trying to help those in need. John held numerous jobs during his lifetime, all of which revolved around assisting others. After graduating from Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College in 1977, he moved to Butte, MT, where he started Country Baptist Church and served as a pastor for many years. He also worked for the Butte Indian Alliance, Clearfield Job Corp, Salt Lake City homeless shelter, and various other organizations.
In his free time, John enjoyed reading the Bible, watching Star Trek, making Native jewelry, and spending time with his wife, Gail. He leaves behind his beloved wife Gail, children Bob Heppler and Rachel Cowley, grandchildren Jesse, Gabe, Sophia, Auriel, and Jazmin, sister Beverly Hamill and brother Manuel Salcido. He further leaves behind stepchildren Shawn Swank, Carrie Olsen, Amy Feller, Linda Carter, Michael Rybin, and Colleen Bradshaw, and step grandchildren Curtis, Tyler, Kyle, and Melanie.
John Salcido will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to helping others, his love for storytelling, and his commitment to sharing the gospel. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
