John Orlas Riggs
CLEARFIELD – John Orlas Riggs, 87, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012.
He was born March 3, 1925 in Circleville, Utah the son of Orlas James and Estella Riggs. He was raised in Hatch, Utah from his birth until he joined the military.
While in the military, he transferred to HAFB, where he met the love of his life. John married Lois Eleanor Livingston on December 20, 1946 in Layton, Utah. Their vows were solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on March 12, 1948. He served in various callings for the LDS Church, including the Bishopric, Elders Quorum, Mutual Improvement Association presidencies and as Scout master. Together he and his wife served a two-year stake mission, followed by six years in the Ogden LDS Temple.
He served five years in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He served in France and Belgium in World War II, then was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. He retired from HAFB, after retirement he worked for the Davis County School District, driving a school bus for 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, three children, Aleda (Steve) Weeks, Las Vegas; Diane (Ken) Erickson, Layton; Gary (Suzanne) Riggs, Henderson, NV; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren on the way and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph, brothers-in-law, Les Foote, Arnold Dale Livingston, and George Lowry Livingston.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield 4th Ward, 838 E. 600 So., Clearfield. Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
