Randy Kimball

Cherished husband, father, and grandfather John Randy Kimball, 80, passed away at his home in Layton, Utah, on November 10, 2025, after several years of courageously facing the challenges of dementia. Randy led a life marked by his positive spirit, fun-loving nature, and dedication to serving and lifting those around him.

Randy was born the sixth of fourteen children to Rodney and LeNeve Kimball. He grew up in Provo, Utah, in a close-knit family where they learned to work hard on the family farm and loved to good-naturedly tease each other. His dad was the athletic trainer at Brigham Young University, and the family grew up with a love for watching and cheering on BYU sports—a passion Randy passed on to his own family.

Randy attended BY High School, where he enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball. His basketball team won the state championship during his senior year. Soon after graduation he briefly served in the Army National Guard and then had the opportunity to serve a mission to Veracruz, Mexico for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Randy loved the Mexican people and learning the Spanish language. He continued to use his Spanish throughout his life to connect with and serve others.

After his mission, Randy returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Parcell, on June 26, 1967, in the Salt Lake Temple. They soon grew their family to include four children. A few months after the birth of their youngest son, Margaret tragically passed away due to complications during surgery. Randy spoke of this time throughout his life with tenderness and often expressed deep gratitude for the many people who lovingly served his children and family.

Feeling prompted to find a new spouse and mother for his children, Randy met Carol Roberts on a blind date. They were married in the Provo Utah Temple on April 25, 1975. Together they added eight more children to their family, and their greatest joy was always their children and grandchildren. Randy had a fun-loving personality and a wonderful sense of humor. He was famous for speaking like Donald Duck and singing songs he made up to his kids and grandkids. He loved playing silly games or cracking jokes with them. He never missed an opportunity to tell his family how much he loved them and how grateful he was to have them as part of his life.

Randy had a talent for loving and connecting with others. He made friends wherever he went and had a gift for understanding people and helping them through their challenges. He used these skills in his career as a salesman and manager at RC Willey, and also in his lifelong service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully as a bishop twice, as a stake president, and as a devoted home teacher and minister. He and Carol also had the privilege of serving a mission together in Madrid, Spain, and later as service missionaries at Lyman Lake Camp.

Randy had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and of the doctrine of eternal families. He shared his testimony often. We know he enjoyed many joyful reunions when he passed from this life to the next.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret; four siblings; his son, Matthew; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his wife, Carol; nine siblings; eleven children: Amy Reed (Brad); Karalee Allred (Mike); Spencer Kimball (Alisa); Jason Kimball (Sarah); Vaughn Kimball (Tavia); Tyler Kimball (Heather); Catherine Cheshire (Shane); Melissa Draper (Charles); Trevor Kimball (Janalee); John Kimball (April); and Dallin Kimball (Jessica); forty-nine beloved grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday November 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Layton Utah West Stake Center, 1715 West 1600 North, Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Sunday November 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the stake center.

Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
