John Fredric (Rick) Glismann, age 79, passed away March 8, 2026, at home after a valiant 9-month battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born on December 25, 1946, to John H.C. and Mary Glismann in Kansas City, Kansas.
He grew up in Ogden, Utah. He married Sandy Buckley on June 18, 1971, and they were later sealed in the Ogden temple. They built a home and settled in Syracuse, Utah, over 50 years ago.
Rick was a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1966-1970, achieving the rank of E-4 sergeant. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering from Weber State University in 1976.
He was very involved with model trains and was a member of the Hostlers Train Club. Rick was a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as a door greeter, during sacrament meetings, always sitting on the back bench he also enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting.
Many family memories were made camping in the Unita Mountains and at Mount Pleasant. Rick was very handy and could fix or build almost anything. He enjoyed doing genealogy work and was deeply devoted to his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Rick coached basketball and baseball while his children were growing up and loved attending train shows, also involved in scouting. He was a quiet man who always looked out for and cared deeply about his family.
He is survived by his four sons and one daughter: Johnny (Paul deceased) Glismann, Jim (Melissa) Glismann, Jamie Glismann, Joey (Tascha) Glismann and Jarrod Glismann and by his brother, David Glismann.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brinlee, Hannah, Tanner, Lexianna, Sofia, Zoie and Perri, Memphis, Damion, Brynn, Bridget as well as many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandy and his parents John H.C. and Mary Glismann along with many aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Syracuse City Cemetery. 1250 South 1000 West, Syracuse. Friends may visit with family prior to service on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 at Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary. 869 South 2000 West, Syracuse UT.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Malani and her staff at Huntsman’s Cancer Institute, as well as Applegate Hospice – especially Debbie and Jesse, his nurse and CNA for their Compassionate Care they gave to our dad.
