Joel C. Stewart passed away as a result of an unfortunate accident on June 3, 2025, in Ogden, Utah. Joel was born July 26,1947, in Payson, Utah, to Morris Bartholomew and Edna Wright Stewart. The family moved to Ogden when he was 8 years old.
He married Rhonda Jill Sharer on June 10, 1966, and the marriage was solemnized the following year in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 9, 1967. Joel and Rhonda are 56-year residents of South Ogden. They raised 6 children and have 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Their love not only spanned the decades but the ups and downs of life. They are fiercely loyal to each other and perfect examples of true love. Even in his good-natured ribbing of Rhonda, you could see his deep love and devotion for her. Joel loved humor and always found something to joke about. His wit and wisdom are a legacy to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joel was educated at Wyoming schools, Club Heights Elementary, South Ogden Junior High, Bonneville High School, and Pocatello High School.
Joel is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings including Bishop of the Ogden 49th Ward, and was serving with Rhonda as a missionary in the My Hometown Mission in Ogden. Leadership and service to others are hallmarks of Joel’s life and he exemplified these for the entire Stewart family and all that knew him.
Joel spent his life working across a variety of fields, including construction, tire and auto services, and trucking. Though officially retired, Joel never stopped working-his strong work ethic and determination kept him going right up until the day of his accident. He was a steadfast example of commitment, showing up and working hard.
One of Joel’s greatest joys was spending time with his family at the property in Scare Canyon. He had a deep love for the mountains, and the time he shared there with loved ones brought him immense happiness and peace. Those moments, surrounded by nature and family, were among the most cherished of his life.
Joel is survived by his wife, Rhonda of South Ogden; his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he was extremely proud of and would always be glad to tell you about; his sons, Shane (Vicki) of Syracuse, Brandon of Bozeman, MT, Dustin (Annette) of Salt Lake, Kody (Amber) of Salt Lake, and William (Angi) of Washington Terrace; daughter, Katie (Waylan) Ukena of South Weber; brother, Don and sisters-in-law, Judy and Margie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Edna; sisters, Elsie and Ludene; brothers, Larry, Charlie, John, Jimmie, Ralph, and Dale; grandson, Jacob; father-in law, Glenn Alan Sharer; mother-in-law, Rhoda Sharer; brother-in-law, Clayton, and sisters-in-law, Kathy, Alanah, and Carmen.
