Our beloved Joao Morais, age 85, passed away peacefully in the hospital on May 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Mozambique, Africa, Joao carried a deep love for his homeland throughout his life. He cherished the memories of his beautiful country and the experiences that shaped him. On December 31, 1960, he married the love of his life, Isabel, and remained her devoted husband and greatest supporter for over 65 years.
Joao was a dedicated family man who poured his heart into raising his children and grandchildren, giving them unconditional love and guidance.
He found great joy in serving others and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Together with Isabel, he served an LDS Temple mission in São Paulo, Brazil, a highlight of their shared faith and service.
He lived in several countries during his life, including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Portugal, and England, before eventually settling in Utah.
Joao was a man of many passions. He loved roller hockey, fishing, hunting in Africa, and especially gardening. Known for his green thumb, he could make almost anything grow and took pride in his beautiful gardens and plants. He was also a talented metal artist whose creativity brought joy to many.
Joao is survived by his wife, Isabel Morais; his children, Marisa Martins (Mario), Dulce Morais, and Arthur Morais (Karla); his grandchildren, Agata (Devan Woodruff), Joao Machado (Breanne), and Tania Miranda (Renato); and his great-grandchildren, Brailyn Cotrin and Zayden Woodruff. He is also survived by his sisters, Candida Morais and Ana Bivar, and nephew Carlo Thomas. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles.
In honor of Joao’s love for growing things, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, you plant a tree, flowers, or vegetables in his memory — a living tribute that reflects his passion and generous spirit.
A Celebration of life will be held for family and close friends on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Relief Society Room at the Kaysville Ward building, located at 331 S 50 W, Kaysville, Utah 84037.
We love you, Joao. You will be deeply missed.
