Listen to Obituary

Joanne Allison Sims was born on July 8, 1975, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Benjamin and Kathryn Sims. She was the youngest of four siblings. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Sherill Lynn Sims and Tracie Lynn Sims. She is survived by her brother, Benjamin W. Sims, and her sister, Barbara Schlichte.

Because of her father’s military service, Joanne moved frequently during her childhood. Her family eventually settled in Ogden, Utah, where she spent her teenage years and attended Bonneville High School. After graduating, Joanne attended Dixie State College before moving to Tucson, Arizona, to live with her brother. She later returned to Utah in 1999 to be closer to family.

While living in Tucson, Joanne met Paul Shively. Together, they raised four children: stepdaughter Maria Seay; daughters Allison Goodwin and Lauren Shively; and son Paul B. Shively. Joanne was also a proud grandmother to her grandson, Arthur Goodwin. She loved all of her children deeply, and although her time as a grandmother was brief, she treasured every moment spent with her grandson.

Joanne’s passing was sudden and unexpected. She is deeply loved and profoundly missed by her family and friends, who will forever cherish her memory.
